Nice playing. I have a faith venus. Which one of these strings would suit it ? Its a fairly bright guitar, so thinking phosphor but what do you think?

What's the melody in the strumming example? Seems strangely familiar, but I can't place it

What's that funk progression? I love it! I could slow the video down and figure it out, but i figure it doesn't hurt to ask and try to save time.

It sounds great but leave it on for over 3 hours and it heats up and sounds all distorted.

The Elixir website shows Polyweb/Warm-Nanoweb/Bright. That's not how these sounded. I did my own test with 80/20 Bronze vs Phosphor Bronze and found the 80/20s brighter which I like on my 66 Southern Jumbo which sounds mellow and the brighter strings seem to wake it up. I haven't done the Poly/Nano test myself but I will. Thanks for your video.

Great video. I just subscribed. I just ordered a few sets of the exact same ernie ball strings as they are on sale. I don't normally use ernie ball strings. How long should I expect them to last? My body chemistry is a bit corrosive so normally if I'm practicing a lot strings don't last me super long. But I am also not really the type to change them right away. Normally I wait until they are completely dead sounding until I change them, and for me that is like after maybe a month and a half more or less with daddario strings, which is what I normally use. I guess it will be something similar with the ernie balls, but I'm not sure. Also I am wondering, from an economic perspective, will I spend more money on normal strings or coated strings? I think from my calculations that any coated string needs to last me minimum of around 4 months to actually result in any notable savings for me. I assume most coated strings should last longer than that, right?

I have a guitar with spruce top with mahogany back and sides. I would like to have more middle and less bass and treble. What strings could do that?

Please revisit this comparison concept with the stringjoy foxwoods as they are the coated PB counterpart to the Elixer strings.

the poly webs dont sound bad... but they sound like they are sort of worn out already.

The XT the wrap is coated l prior to winding. The XS are coated after winding the them.

I feel like the S&s strings are louder

Martin bridge pins in a Taylor. Can’t help but improve the sound of a Taylor.

For me 80/20 is Smoother and less volume!..the Bronze more volume and fat sound and for sure Cut more the mix!…in This video i prefer the 80/20!

On this very specific guitar, Elixirs are a bit too chimy and thin. I do love my Elixirs on other guitars

Im just using what came with my Taylor and liking it if it ain't broken don't fix it.

I bought an expensive builders edition taylor years ago and was always disappointed with the sound when recorded, live I didn't notice. The sound was too tinny and the mids were far too saturated. It's only recently i've realised that it's down to these nanowebs. I bought a 70's vega guitar, which is basically a martin D-18 with vega on the headstock.. it went from sounding amazing to absolute trash with the nanowebs on. I also realised how much higher tension the nanowebs are than a normal string which is not as nice to play and you lose a lot of the feel compared to a normal string. Even 'played in' the nanowebs are clicky and tinny when playing fingerstyle and I find they sustain far too long when strummed which saturates a mix on anything other than a solo guitar piece. I put the old vega strings on my taylor and it immediately sounded better. Despite using the elixers for over a decade (and not realising the difference strings can make) I will never touch these nanowebs ever again. Yes it's nice that they last ages but the benefits end there.

According to me, Ernie ball has more sweeter and natural acoustic tone than elixir . Elixir is more harsh and over bright tone and is 3 times expensive. The only advantage in elixir is that it last a bit longer than Ernie ball. But in terms of tone, Ernie ball is better. If you wipe the strings with string cleaner every week Ernie ball will also last longer

Which one is better for a mahogany back and sides guitar

If microphone is not attached to guitar, your tests are not miced the same way. If you notice a change it means your bridge is loose in the saddle. Brass bridge pins are a total waste.

Stringjoy is the clear winner for amore balanced tone. One thing to remember is that Elixir is not a string manufacturer they just buy strings in bulk from another manufacturer and coat them. So we should be referring to Elixir as a string coating company. Stringjoy is involved in the actual manufacturing of their strings from the ground up. To me that carries some weight.

I've tried every bridge pin known to man and I keep going back to plastic actually I haven't tried wood yet

Excellent comparison! I'm going for Phosphor Bronze. Balanced sound. The lows and mids are just enough, and the highs are not too loud and overpowering.

The Eixirs sound terrible on this guitar. There, I said it.

i am listening to it on headphones... thomastik sounds wider... which means that your mic placement is different.... i think you have recorded them on 2 different days.... i would recommend that while comparing you should have 2 guitars of the same make and play them one after another with the same mic placement....
